Preventing Youth Violence
EBAYC’s Street Team provides intensive support to 100 youth, primarily ages 15 to 18, who are on court-ordered probation.
Youth who are nurtured and empowered are more likely to succeed. Having a consistent, structured, caring environment contributes to the healthy development of a young person. In reality, not all youth live in a stable environment. Those who live in urban settings are more vulnerable to street violence, gang involvement, and truancy. EBAYC believes every young person deserves the opportunity to triumph over past mistakes.
EBAYC’s Street Team provides intensive support and guidance to court-involved youth. Our trauma-informed approach includes case management, therapeutic activity groups, and transitional employment services. Our staff works closely with each participant to support them in successfully completing probation and to be on a solid path toward self-sufficiency.
Over 70% of young people who participate in Street Team programming do not recidivate. They also demonstrate improved school attendance and decreased school suspensions, and many earn early dismissals from court-ordered probation.
