► ABOUT EBAYC AT ROOSEVELT MIDDLE SCHOOL

For over 30 years, EBAYC and Roosevelt Middle School have been working in partnership to make Roosevelt a safe, supportive, and engaging learning experience for all.

Responding to pervasive truancy and interracial violence at Roosevelt, EBAYC and Oakland Community Organizations (now known as Faith In Action East Bay) co-facilitated a multiracial team of parents through an action research process in 1997 to find meaningful solutions.

Parents wanted Roosevelt to be open during out-of-school-time hours for positive youth and family programming; establish alternatives to school suspension practices; establish a full-service health center; install new lighting and fencing; and create opportunities for parent/family participation. EBAYC served as the lead agency to implement those recommendations, including the establishment of the Roosevelt Health Center, Alameda County’s first school health center based at a middle school.

Today, EBAYC directly provides:

  • After-school learning involving over 50% of the entire school population
  • Camp Thrive, an outdoor education summer program based in East Bay Regional Parks
  • Tiered intervention for positive school attendance focusing on sixth grade students and families
  • Life coaching and wraparound support
  • Bulldogs Resource Center, which distributes food, hygiene supplies, and other resources to Roosevelt families
